EPIFANIO, 14 - TEL. 23.0,29 Dear Joshua, when I was in Madison last October R.Wright told he was studying a strain of Aerobacillus polymyxa which was able to lysa@ata, at least in part, the ascus wall of Saccharomycetes. At the vresent moment I'm trying to analyze variations in recombination frequencies between two linked loci under different conditions. I would therefore need a very simple technique for braking asci in mass. Liay be your strain could be suitable for this purpose and I wrote to Wright asking if he could send me a culture of A.polymyxa and the uethod for isolation and/or purification of the specific enzyme provided he is not studying the same pro- blem. If you will send me the strain it is obvious I'll not publish anything of ny research on it without your permission. I take this opportunity to thank you for your kind hospitality and I'm looking forward to see you next fall in Italy. wichael Lerner, who is spending some months in our lab, as you probably know, wants to be remenbered to you.
