Drew, the eminent scientist, professor, administrator and surgeon who made so many valuable contributions to medical science. Dr. Drew's discovery and development of methods to preserve blood plasma in large quantities and the application of his research and findings helped to save countless lives in World War II. His pioneering in World War II laid the foundation for today's vast blood program of the American Red Cross. U.S. postage stamps are powerful communicators and have great educational value. When the Dr. Charles R. Drew stamp is used on envelopes, millions of people throughout the United States and the world will thus be reminded of the outstanding accomplishments of this truly Great American.
