October 5, 1951 Dear Mr. Macleish: I am writing to tell you that I think LIFE did an excellent job on the article describing the work on protein structure that Professor Corey and I have been carrying out, which appeared in the issue of September 24. It seems to me that every statement in the article is sound, in the meaning that it has for scientists, and that also it is satisfactory in the interpretation that the layman would give it. The two meanings are not always exactly the same. It was a pleasure for me to work with Mr. Ginna. He has a very good understanding of science, and I would expect him to do a good job with anything that he tackled. Sincerely yours,
