McKusick, M.D. hm" RE: Leak of Chapter 3 and reviewers‘ comments John Burris, Executive Director of the Commission on Life Sciences in the National Academy of Sciences/National Research Council, received a letter from three parties, dated Nov. 6, 1991, indicating that they had access to a draft of Chapter 3 of this Committee’s report as well as the comments of reviewers. The letters were from John W. Hicks of the F.B.I. (with accompanying appendix, prepared probably by Bruce Budowle) and two prosecu- tors, Wooley of Cleveland and Harmon of Oakland. In the first place, the leak should not have occurred. In the second place, this Committee must not be pressured by anyone, including a funding source for the study--or appear to be so influenced. After extensive thought and discussion, I conclude that you must all be aware of the existence of these letters and must have the opportunity to read them also.
