Dear Paul,
I enclose a copy of the valine sRNA sequence, together with some notes that you left behind.  The most obvious suggestion that was made here was that the effect of GTP might be due to release of sRNA that was cluttering up the peptide site.  To check this Thach should preincubate the ribosomes with GTP, then remove as much GTP as possible, and repeat his experiment in the presence of the inhibitor.  If the above suggestion is correct the GTP should only be needed in the preincubation stage and not in the incubation proper to get the usual effect.  Your notes which you wrote on the board have fortunately not been rubbed out and read as follows:-
Effect on freezing of phasing
20 degrees or 30 degrees
10 x sRNA
two step release
degradation of F met val phe
I am not quite sure what all these mean but I expect they will remind you of something.
Don't forget you were going to send me a copy of that review explaining how women are too fond of sex, and are restrained by the conventions of society.
I also enclose my latest blast against Jim.  Bragg is beginning to wobble and I think now is the time for your and John Edsall to take a new look at the whole problem.
