7693. Adulteration of riee shorts. TJ. S. * * * v. Carl Atller (Adler Ex- port Co.). Plea of guilty. Fine, $10. (P. & D. No. 0160. I 6 No. 8736-p.) On November 19, 1918, the United States attorney for the Eastern District of Louisiana, acting upon a report by the Secretary of Agriculture, filed in - the District Court of the United States for said district an information against Carl Adler, trading as the Adler Export Co., New Orleans, La, alleging ship- ment by the said defendant, in violation of the Food and Drugs Act, on or about September 10, 1917, from the State of Louisiana into the State of Ala- bama, of a quantity of an article, labeled in part " Rice Shorts," which was adulterated. Analysis of a sample of the article by the Bureau of Chemistry of this de- partment showed the same to contain added ground rice hulls. Adulteration of the article was alleged in the information for the reason that a substance, to wit, ground rice hulls, had been mixed and packed there- with so as to lower and reduce and injuriously affect its quality, and for the further reason that a substance, to wit, added ground rice hulls, had been substituted in part for rice shorts, v/hich the article purported to be. On May 29, 1920, the defendant entered a plea of guilty to the information, and the court imposed a fine of $10. C. F. MARVIN, Acting Secretary of Agriculture.
